Su-yeon Kim

Su-yeon Kim is a South Korean glass artist whose mesmerising body of work, ‘Forest of the Stools’, displays her unique method of merging intricate line-drawing with the complexities of glass.

Graduating with a BFA from Hongik University in Seoul and an MFA from Southern Illinois University, Kim honed her craft through a process of trial and error. In particular, she was intrigued by the prospect of using glass as a drawing method through which she could create her own visual language.

‘Forest of the Stools’ is the result of Kim’s technical innovation wherein she strikingly shows the fluid and repetitive nature of human thought. Glass stringers are used to create individual stools which are then stacked on top of each other to represent the never-ending thinking process, culminating in a ‘forest’ of shared humanity.

Su-yeon Kim lives and works in South Korea where she runs her own glass studio and teaches at Hongik University. She has exhibited her work internationally.
