Special Discretion Required Diptych
The Channel Four triangle and the phrase “Special Discretion Required” were used as a warning to viewers who could be offended by arthouse, specifically themed films and more controversial films shown on Channel Four in the 80s and part of the 90s. The warning was like a siren for me that the film shown was going to be of interest to me or maybe not! Who knew? And that was the excitement of it. At the time, it felt daring to be able to watch films that were aimed at me, such as those by Jarman, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Peter Greenaway. I loved it at that time, and I still love these directors, the films, and the scores.
