“The Music Is Black: A Black British Story” is a landmark exhibition

We are happy to share that @vickylindo , our first gallery artists will have two vases from their award wining “Dead Dad Book” series included in an upcoming exhibition “The Music Is Black: A Black British Story” at the opening of @vam_east on the 18th April.“My Dad” (pictured above) and “Wexford People” are apart of 2019 series that is based on research into the life of Vicky’s late father, Michael Anthony (Mick) Lindo, who travelled alone to England from Jamaica as part of the Windrush Generation, when he was just 11 years-old.

“The Music Is Black: A Black British Story”is a landmark exhibition that will reveal how Black British music has shaped British culture. Spanning four continents and 12 decades, this is a story of excellence and struggle, resilience and joy.We are thrilled to see the show.

A landmark exhibition open now until December 2025 at V&A East.  Another pinch me moment on the journey of the Dead Dad Book.  The V&A recently opened their sixth museum, V&A East can be found in Stratford, London and we have been lucky to have our work included in the inauguaral exhibition The Music Is Black: A British Story.

As part of the Art in memorium display, Wexford People and My Dad have been selected to sit alongside the work of rapper, producer, actor and author Tricky, who's debut album is a bold and honest tribute to his mother, Maxine Quaye."125 years of Black music making in Britain.  This landmark exhibition reveals how Black British music has shaped British culture. Spanning four continents and 12 decades, this is a story of excellence and struggle, resilience and joy."

FiredUp4 Curated Ceramics - a charity auction at Sotheby's.

The Tallest Crop is going to be included in the next FiredUp4 auction which is being held at Sotheby's, New Bond Street London on Thursday 14th May.  All funds raised will go directly to supporting the work of FiredUp4, which opens the door to creativity for young people through clay.  They fund and install pottery equipement and run Clay Clubs in partnership with OnSide Youth Zones.  These are state of the art youth centres built in the UK's most economically disadvantaged areas, that give young people a safe, inspiring place to try different activities. Other works included in the auction are by Lucie Rie, Kate Malone, Felicity Aylieff and Hitomi Hosono.  Please reply to this email if you would like a PDF of the catalogue and information on bidding.
