Aoibhin Maguire

Aoibhin Maguire is a painter from Belfast, Northern Ireland, currently based in London. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Lancaster University and an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art.

Working primarily with vibrant colours and layered compositions, Maguire creates immersive pictorial spaces where reality and imagination intersect. Her paintings explore the emotional landscapes that exist alongside everyday life, translating moments of anxiety, escapism, and reflection into richly textured surfaces. Through intuitive mark-making, she constructs hybrid environments that oscillate between abstraction and suggestion, evoking a sense of place without fixed narrative.

The materiality of paint is crucial to Maguire’s work. Thick layers, gestural brushstrokes, and luminous colour fields emphasise the material presence of the medium while reflecting the emotional intensity behind each work.

Her work ultimately considers the fluctuating nature of human experience, where vulnerability and hope coexist. By creating spaces of colour, texture, and sensation, Maguire invites viewers into environments that offer both escapism and introspection.
