This painting is part of FATHERLAND, an exhibition by Teddy Hansen.
Maybe Danish people are still happy because of their perfectly tanned skin?
Like in the piece ’Seagull’, this painting explores other ways seagulls facilitate sailors’ perfect tans.
At the bottom, three sailors use a seagull to protect them from sunburn. The first wears a seagull as a baseball cap, the second as a pair of sunglasses, and the third uses the bird’s excrement as sunscreen. Above, a giant seagull shoots the sun with a water pistol, over which a knight with a winged helmet fights a dragon.
