A Racedog’s Retirement by Teddy Hansen

There is a lot of negativity around the wellbeing of race dogs once they retire. This painting shows why retired race dog 43 would have a great life. Around the running dog is a large ring, representing the track dogs race around. On the left-hand side you see a small dog running after a ball. To the top right are 2 dogs chasing after a post van. And in the bottom right, a dog running with its tongue out. Post retirement this race dog would always be first to a thrown ball, able to keep up with any postman driving away and there would be no need to ride in a car to get the wind in their face they can just run super fast with their tongue out. The dog’s number is 43, as that’s the average top speed in mph of a racing greyhound.

Mixed media on canvas.
