Derek Jarman by Simon Dredge

A plate to pay my respects, a tribute and thank you for the inspiration that Derek Jarman has been in my life for 40 years. It’s important for me to recognise this, as he’s inspired me for such a long time, and he’s given me the courage to explore and experiment with my practice.

Jarman was always honest, which shocked and scared many people, but his legacy proves that it’s better to be honest with oneself; that’s what I want to achieve with my work.

This plate is decorated with mixed media collage. Watercolour. Acrylics. Varnish and lacquer.
